The Lightkeepers

A couple of the players from Dark Hollow and another from Boots N Shorts and Soul Risin’ started up this jam band called the Lightkeepers and approached me about creating a logo for them.  The only stipulation was there had to be flame coming out of a lighthouse.  I researched lighthouses and found some incredible images in old National Geographics.  I was amazed at the variety of styles.  I created the Lightkeepers lighthouse by combining features from a couple of different buildings.  I like the texture of the rocks making up the tower and the elegance of the catwalk.

The foundation had to be something unique but not overwhelming and so I went with a human head.  I like skulls.  I’ve stated it before and I will state it again…I think of skulls as the armor of knowledge.  Lighthouses help people make life and death decisions.  I tossed in some star charts to decorate the negative space but thought it was a good decision because sailors had to use those twinkling little lights to survive when there was no land in sight.
